Warner Robins, Ga. – Faculty from the Business Management and Logistics Management programs at Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) recently visited academic partner, FAE Centro Universitario in Curitiba, Brazil in April to continue work on planning for a faculty-led study abroad program in Spring 2025.
Dean of Business and Computer Technologies, Dr. Sabrina Swann joined program chair for Business Management, Brione Burrows, Logistics Management instructor, Aaron Coleman, and director of Marketing, Public Relations, and International Outreach, JoBen Rivera-Thompson on the visit to Brazil.
The visit is part of the College’s work under the U.S. Department of State’s Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students (IDEAS) Program, which aims to develop and expand study abroad programs around the world. CGTC is one of 34 U.S. colleges and universities in 28 U.S. states to be awarded a grant in 2023.
Creating a new study abroad program in Brazil expands CGTC’s partnership with FAE Centro Universitario and increases short-term study abroad opportunities in disciplines demonstrating greater enrollment among underserved students at CGTC.
“Coursework in International Business and Transportation in Logistics are accessible avenues where every one of our students can feel comfortable learning globally,” said Swann. “Students will experience first-hand an amazing culture, and lifestyle, but we also aim to craft the courses in a way that challenges students to work alongside Brazilian students on business concepts and projects virtually, and when they arrive in Brazil.”
Faculty and staff will spend the next few months planning activities for the courses. The division anticipates a week-long itinerary in Brazil traveling in May 2025.
While the study abroad experience is designed for students in Business Management and Logistics Management, opportunities to enroll in the courses may become available to students whose program offers space for an occupational elective.
