Warner Robins, Ga. – The Adult Education Division (AED) of Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) is making the final additions to its newest educational center set to open for its first recruitment event Friday, March 8, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The CGTC Adult Education Career Training (AECT) Center, located at 400 Elberta Rd. in Warner Robins, will bridge adult education initiatives of the College for citizens in south Bibb and north Houston counties.
The Division and its faculty and staff invite the public to the event as the Division transition one of its Houston County centers into the former Elberta Center of the Houston County Board of Education.
The AECT Center will be a community-focused hub for adult literacy education, workforce training, and soft-skills development.
“The opening of this Center is about the Adult Education Division and CGTC’s commitment to workforce training and fast-tracking students to their GED,” said, Daron Lee, the Community Outreach coordinator for the Division. “The main objective for us is to equip adult students with the skills and training that is desirable for local industry partners, and in turn provide those industry partners with the space to develop their employees and engage with our students who are looking to connect to a career.”
The recruitment event will include food, prizes, entertainment for kids, and first-looks at the Center’s offerings. Attendees can register for Adult Education programs with valid government identification.
Dorothy Ferguson, the director of operations for the Division, said this Center is about access for the citizen and the College.
“We are trying to re-capture a population of students we have had in the past by providing access to a much more centralized location outside of our campuses. Access is going to be the greatest advantage of having a center strategically located for citizens in the communities of south Bibb and north Houston counties.”
The AED offers free Pre-GED® and GED®, ASVAB, and ACCUPLACER test preparation classes. In addition to test preparation, the Adult Education Division provides instruction in the following areas: basic skills review, work ethics, soft skills, college and career readiness, and digital literacy.
