Reynolds, GA — The Flint Energies Foundation recently announced a grant of $5,000 awarded to the Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) Foundation. The funds will be used to provide scholarships for students enrolled in CGTC’s Office of Global Initiatives program for study abroad, helping to ease financial burdens and expand access to international and cross-cultural learning.
CGTC’s Global Initiatives program was established to broaden educational and training partnerships beyond U.S. borders. It offers students opportunities such as study abroad, international student enrollment, and service learning in countries including Ireland, Brazil, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, among others.
With this new $5,000 from the Flint Energies Foundation, CGTC Foundation will award scholarships specifically targeted to students who enroll in study abroad programs. These scholarships will help cover costs associated with international travel, program fees, and other expenses that often limit participation.
“The access that these scholarships provide means more Titans will be able to engage in experiences abroad, bring new perspectives back to campus, and better prepare for global workforce,” said JoBen Rivera-Thompson, the College’s director of Marketing, Public Relations, and International Outreach at CGTC, “We are grateful for the Flint Energies Foundation and their generosity for our community.”
The opportunity to study abroad, to learn from other cultures, to participate in global service or exchange, can be transformative. But cost is one of the biggest barriers. Scholarships make possible by this grant help level the playing field.
More than 65 percent of students participating in study abroad at CGTC in the last 5 years have received some form of scholarship. Those students represent diverse social and economic backgrounds and underserved populations in undergraduate study abroad.
