Warner Robins, GA. — Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) has received reaffirmation of accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), marking a significant achievement for the institution and reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence, student success, and continuous improvement.
At its June 2026 convening, the SACSCOC Board of Trustee voted to reaffirm the college’s accreditation with no additional reporting requirements or follow-up actions required. In addition, the Board approved two Prison Education Program (PEP) locations, further expanding educational access and opportunities for federal aid for underserved student populations.
SACSCOC accreditation is a comprehensive process that evaluates institutions against rigorous standards related to governance, academic quality, student support, institutional effectiveness, and continuous improvement. Reaffirmation signifies that an institution has demonstrated compliance with the Principles of Accreditation and possesses the resources, programs, and services necessary to fulfill its educational mission. Accreditation also ensures students have access to federal financial aid and that course credits and credentials maintain broad recognition and transferability.
“This reaffirmation is a testament to the dedication and collaborative efforts of faculty, staff, and administrators across the College,” said Dr. Ivan H. Allen, president of Central Georgia Technical College. “The Board’s action reaffirms that CGTC continues to provide high-quality educational opportunities while maintaining a student-centered approach that prioritizes both access and excellence.”
The reaffirmation process involved extensive institutional review and documentation demonstrating compliance with SACSCOC standards. College leadership recognized the contributions of numerous departments and individuals whose work was instrumental in achieving this outcome.
Special recognition was extended to Dr. Deborah Josey Burks, vice president for Institutional Effectiveness, and the Institutional Effectiveness team for their leadership throughout the accreditation process. Additional recognition was given to DeAnn Nester, vice president for Academic Affairs, and the Academic Affairs team, as well as Dr. Brittany Lucas, vice president for Adult Education, and the Re-entry Services team for their commitment to ensuring compliance, quality, and student success initiatives.
“Receiving reaffirmation with no additional reporting requirements reflects the exceptional work that has taken place across every area of the College,” said Dr. Burks. “This achievement demonstrates Central Georgia Technical College’s unwavering commitment to accountability, continuous improvement, and student success. It is especially meaningful because it validates the innovative work being done by our faculty and staff to expand access to education while maintaining the highest standards of academic quality. I am incredibly proud of the collaborative efforts of our Institutional Effectiveness team, Academic Affairs, Re-entry Services, and every employee who contributed to this successful outcome.”
During notification of the Board’s decision, SACSCOC Chief of Staff Dr. Sandra Jordan commended the College’s continued focus on innovation and student access while maintaining educational quality. Her encouragement to “keep innovating for students” reinforces the college’s ongoing mission to remove barriers, expand opportunities, and create pathways to success for all learners.
