Takoradi Technical University Visit CGTC Campus Amidst Broader Discussion on International Education

Warner Robins, Ga. – Seven guests from LIFE League and Takoradi Technical University in Takoradi, Ghana, visited Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) Warner Robins campus late in the Spring semester. The visit allowed both institutions the opportunity to continue discussions on initiatives in international education and student mobility.  

The visit included a working lunch where College leadership presented on Dual Enrollment, Study Abroad, Athletics and International Partnerships. The guests also toured the campus including the Central Aviation Partnership where the CGTC Aviation Maintenance is housed.  

The visit to CGTC was part of a larger visit with LIFE League, a local non-profit focusing on teaching student athletes’ life skills post-graduation.  The non-profit partners with countries including USA and Ghana to build international partnerships between universities and businesses. 

The representatives from LIFE League included Jeffrey Tarver and JaMelle Hill. The representatives from Takoradi Technical University included John Eshun, Victor Micah, Gabriel Ahinful and Emefa Amponsah, and the representative from Pink STEM was Tamika Head.  

Collaborative discussions between and TTU span two years, thanks to funding from the U.S. Department of State’s Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students (IDEAS) Program.  

In 2024, representatives from CGTC visited Ghana to further explore opportunities concerning study abroad programs for CGTC students. The representatives met with Ghanaian institutions to discuss the ways in which CGTC can expand their study abroad program into Africa and benefit students through hands-on technical experience in areas like Aerospace, Health Sciences and more. 

Since the IDEAS Grant implementation from 2023 to 2025, the program helped expand study abroad programs and allow students the opportunity to experience technical skills in a global setting.  

With study abroad program established in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Ireland, the CGTC Office of Global Initiatives is hopeful a mutually beneficial partnership with TTU can develop in Ghana. TTU has already established international partnerships with countries like France and Germany and has even incentivized their own study abroad program to France.   

“It was an honor to welcome our friends and guests from Takoradi and show them what this college does for our community,” said JoBen Rivera-Thompson, CGTC’s director of Marketing, PR and International Outreach. “We look forward to more dialogue on how we can strategically create international education opportunities that are mutually beneficial to both institutions.”  

The CGTC Office of Global initiatives remains committed to exploring and expanding their study abroad and international program portfolio into Africa to the benefit of students in areas like Aerospace, Health Sciences and more.
