Warner Robins, Ga. – Late in October, two representatives from Defence Forces Technical College (DEFTEC), a College of the National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K), visited Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) to meet with the College leadership and tour programs with the aim of future collaboration in education and training.

Col. (Dr.) John Kisilu, Deputy Principal of DEFTEC, and Lt. Col. Jane Kigen, Senior Instructor, for DEFTEC’s School of Mechanical Engineering spent their visit learning about the college’s global workforce development mission, programs, labs and facilities, while also taking in cultural activities in Houston and Bibb Counties.

Arranged in cooperation with the Institute of Security Governance (ISG), Chris Simpson, ISG human resource management subject matter expert (SME), and Terrance Kilgore, Logistics and Sustainment SME, joined the delegation for the visit for logistical and program development support.

“As the College continues its exploration of international education opportunities for students, faculty, and staff, potential partners as humble and driven as our guest from Kenya, make collaboration more exciting,” said, JoBen Rivera-Thompson, director of Marketing, Public Relations, and International Outreach. “We hope that in just a few days with us, our Kenyan friends returned home understanding CGTC’s role in our community and its desire for global workforce development.”

During their visit, the delegation had meetings with CGTC leadership, toured the Macon and Warner Robins Campuses, including the Aviation Maintenance, Aircraft Structural, Cybersecurity, and Industrial Systems programs, among others.

Col. (Dr.) Kisilu and Col. Kigen, not only shared their diverse educational experiences with the College, but also presented a gift in honor of the visit to CGTC president, Dr. Ivan H. Allen.

DEFTEC is evaluating the College’s potential as a partner to support the Kenya Defence Forces Logistics Modernization initiative through enhancement of education and training capabilities.

Both institutions expect discussions about CGTC – DEFTEC international education collaboration and student/staff exchange opportunities to continue this fall and into 2025.
