Warner Robins, Ga. – Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) students in the Aerospace, Trade and Industry Division spent part of the fall semester giving back to the nonprofit Sleep in Heavenly Peace Warner Robins.
As part of the partnership, students and faculty constructed three dip tanks specifically designed for staining bed components used by Sleep in Heavenly Peace as the organization works to provide beds to children in need throughout the community.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace – Warner Robins is part of a national nonprofit organization dedicated to building and providing beds to children who do not have a proper bed of their own. Through volunteers, donors, and community partnerships, the organization works to ensure that children in local communities have a safe place to sleep.
The project brought together CGTC expertise in welding and skilled trades with the mission of a community organization working to address an important need among local families. The collaboration demonstrated how technical education and industry-aligned skills can be applied to projects that create a tangible impact beyond the classroom.
The CGTC volunteers included Montana Moore, Instructor, Welding; Katarina Jackson, Instructor, Welding; Jason Haramut, Instructor/Department Chair, Trade and Industry; and Mike Pace, Dean, Aerospace, Trade & Industry.
“This project is a great example of how technical skills and community partnerships can come together to make a meaningful difference,” said Pace. “We are proud to support Sleep in Heavenly Peace and the work they are doing to provide children with a safe and comfortable place to sleep. Projects like this also demonstrate the value of the skills taught through our Welding program and the impact those skills can have when they are put to work for our community.”
The construction of the three dip tanks highlights the practical application of the skills developed through CGTC’s Welding program, where students receive hands-on training designed to prepare them for careers in the skilled trades. By contributing technical expertise to community projects, CGTC faculty and staff and students demonstrate how the College’s workforce mission extends beyond preparing students for employment.
CGTC continues to help address local needs while demonstrating the real-world value of technical education.
