Warner Robins, GA– The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Foundation has recently announced Central Georgia Technical College as a recipient of the NJCAA Sport Opportunity Grant. The CGTC Foundation will receive the $3,000 grant for aid in supporting the expansion of CGTC’s athletics program to include Division I Football.
The NJCAA Foundation established the NJCAA Sport Opportunity Grant to foster the addition, growth, and sustainability of NJCAA sports. The grant is available for NJCAA member colleges that are expanding sport offerings and increasing opportunities for student-athletes.
As CGTC kicks its season of Division I football this fall, this grant will play a crucial role in enhancing student-athlete success and achievement. The funds will be instrumental for the football program in expanding into the NJCAA from NCFA (National Club Football Association).
“Through the NJCAA Sport Opportunity Grant, the NJCAA Foundation is creating opportunities for member colleges to expand and develop sports offerings,” stated Brian Luckett, NJCAA Foundation Executive Director. “Athletics at the two-year level continue to grow and progress, resulting in student-athletes being afforded more significant development opportunities athletically and academically.”
The first football game of the season is August 31, 2024, when the Titans take on the Hardeeville Vikings.
“Our athletics programs are incredibly grateful to receive the NJCAA Sport Opportunity Grant, these funds will allow us to grow our new football program and support our student-athletes as they strive for excellence this season.” said Cathy Johnson, executive director of Athletics and Compliance. “CGTC is excited to embark on this journey this season and looks forward to the positive impact these funds will have on our growing program.”
Collegiate athletics at NJCAA institutions offer students opportunities for personal growth, community engagement, and academic success. Participation in athletics fosters teamwork, discipline, and leadership skills while promoting physical and mental well-being among students. Athletic events serve as rallying points for campus spirit and community pride, contributing to a vibrant campus culture.
The College values the support of the NJCAA in contributing to its Titan Spirit.
