Add Language Skills to Your Career In Healthcare
Warner Robins, Ga. – The CGTC Office of Global Initiatives announced a new program to Costa Rica for Summer 2027, designed to help students in the Health Sciences Division improve language skills as empathetic healthcare providers.
Interest forms are available for those interested in the program called Spanish for Medical Professionals in San Jose, Costa Rica, July 17-31, 2027.
The two-week immersive study abroad program is designed for students (18+), alumni, and partner medical professionals in all health sciences programs who seek to improve and strengthen their Spanish language skills related to their medical profession.
The model of the program engages students in immersive Spanish environments, including host families for accommodation, guided lectures, healthcare site visits, and cultural exploration. There is also time built-in for a beach excursion.
For the 2027 program, students may earn credits toward Spanish 1101 or 1102, and non-credit opportunities are also available. As is the case with any Global Initiatives program, students should speak with their program advisor about how any program aligns with their educational and career goals.
A basic level of Spanish is preferred but not needed for participation. Participants will be required to navigate travel and transportation in a Spanish-speaking country supported by in-country program coordinators.
Multiple labor organizations cite that medical professionals can earn a salary premium of 5 to 20 percent more by exemplifying skills in a foreign language.
The cost is only guaranteed to the first 15 who pay their deposit, and priority is given to students enrolled in the credit-bearing program.
