Medical Professions Pathway Transfer Program creates an opportunity for CGTC students to become medical doctors

Warner Robins, Ga. – Former Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) student and military veteran Larry Howard took an important step toward his goal of becoming a medical doctor in September when he received his white coat at Trinity School of Medicine (TSOM).
Howard is the first male student and the second student overall to participate in the Medical Professions Pathway Transfer Program established between CGTC and Trinity School of Medicine (TSOM). The program provides a structured academic pathway for eligible CGTC students to continue their education and pursue a Doctor of Medicine degree.
Through the partnership, CGTC students complete prescribed semester-hour requirements to earn an Associate of Science (AS) in General Studies and a Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) in Healthcare Professions. Students may then transfer to TSOM’s Transition Term in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Upon successful completion of the Transition Term and fulfillment of applicable program requirements, students may advance to TSOM’s Doctor of Medicine program.

The pathway is designed to help students progress from technical college coursework into medical education while preparing them to pursue professional medical licensure in the United States and several other countries, subject to the applicable licensing and examination requirements of each jurisdiction.
Howard’s achievement highlights the opportunities available through CGTC’s academic partnerships and the college’s commitment to helping students pursue ambitious educational and professional goals. His journey also demonstrates how veterans and other students can build on their experiences and education to prepare for careers that make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Howard is adjusting well to life on the main island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, as his family moved there with him in the summer, ahead of the fall semester.
“Everything is going great,” he said. “It has just been a lot of studying and trying to organize everything.”
As Larry adjusts to a new academic life, he said he is grateful for the work of CGTC faculty and staff to help him achieve his goals, and for the support of the college community.
CGTC and its leadership celebrate this significant milestone and wish Howard continued success as he pursues his dream of becoming a physician.
