November 13, 2024

Arlington, VA. – Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) ranks among the best colleges for veterans on Military Times’ 2024 list.

Earlier this month, Military Times released its 2024 Best for Vets: Colleges Rankings, the largest and most comprehensive annual list recognizing the top colleges and universities for military service members and veterans.

CGTC is among the 304 schools which made the list, each demonstrating what Military Times call as a commitment to supporting the military community in their educational journeys. Each year, Military Times surveys colleges and universities nationwide to evaluate their veteran-focused programs. These survey responses, along with public data sourced from the Department of Education and Department of Veterans Affairs, undergo a rigorous analysis by the Military Times data team to produce a trusted, unbiased ranking.

Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges is the largest and most comprehensive rankings of schools for military service members and veterans. The ranking features individual web pages for each individual school that makes the list. These pages include detailed information about the school, their services available to veterans and practical information that will help veterans make important decisions about their career planning and how to use the education benefits they earned through military service.

Taking note to many of the services provided by the college throughout the enrollment process, Military Times provided positive accounts on the robust nature of support for military persons and their families.

Central Georgia Technical College provides early intervention services for students through the TEAMS Outreach Center. Military affiliated students have three dedicated TEAMS members who receive alerts from both instructors or individual students and provide one-on-one assistance to students who are behind in classes, feeling overwhelmed, or need help getting back on track.

The College also has the REACH Student Organization which is designed to connect faculty and staff mentors with male college students of color to help guide them through their college experience and assist with navigating resources. Military affiliated students have a designated advisor through REACH.

Most notably, the College operates the Georgia Veterans Education Career Transition Resource (VECTR) Center that Military Times celebrated for its work to assist students with understanding how to use Prior Learning Assessment to translate military experience and college-level knowledge to college credit.

The VECTR Center offers support services specifically for military and veteran students through programs and partners such as WOVEN (Women Veteran Network), the Veterans Health Administration, and academic support services to include tutoring, program specific workshops, and test taking preparation.

The VECTR Center also has three full time veteran career success coaches dedicated to assisting active-duty, veterans, and immediate adult family members with finding the right career based on their experiences and passions. These coaches help clients with skillset assessment, interest assessment, job search strategies, resume writing, resume evaluation, mock interviews, and post interview actions.

In the AY 2024-2025, the coaches provided over 3,000 career and educational related services to veterans. The success coaches also conduct two in-person career fairs each year for local employers to connect with veterans and explore job opportunities.
