CGTC Continues Support of State and Federal Relief Efforts Amid Historic Hurricane Season

October 10, 2024

Warner Robins, Ga. – Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) remains steadfast in support of the ongoing state and federal disaster relief efforts during one of the most active and destructive hurricane seasons for the Southeast.

In collaboration with multiple agencies, including the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the Georgia National Guard, CGTC’s Macon and Warner Robins campuses have become pivotal staging areas for relief operations.

Since Hurricane Helene made landfall, CGTC’s Macon Campus has played a critical role in distributing essential supplies. Over 50 trucks have been arriving daily, transporting trailer loads of food, water, generators, hygiene products, and other necessities to devastated communities across the Southeast.

“We are proud to support this large-scale operation,” said CGTC chief of police, Bob Wilbanks, whose team of police and security, alongside facilities staff at the College have been directly supporting the logistics of the relief efforts. “The trust placed in CGTC by state and federal agencies is a testament to our dedication to serving the community, especially in times of crisis.”

TCSG’s Commissioner, Greg Dozier, receives a briefing from Bob Wilbanks, CGTC’s Chief of Police.

In addition to its role in supply distribution, CGTC has been activated as an Evacuee Center for Hurricane Milton at the Larry Walker Arena on its Warner Robins campus. In partnership with the American Red Cross and the Georgia Department of Public Health (GADPH), the center is prepared to receive self-evacuees fleeing the path of Hurricane Milton, which has hit Florida’s Gulf Coast. Hurricane Milton, one of the most powerful storms to directly impact Florida, is expected to cause catastrophic damage in its path with thousands seeking shelter north of the state.

CGTC encourages its campus community to plan accordingly for any increased traffic on campus. While the timeline for these operations is uncertain, CGTC remains committed to playing an integral role in supporting both state and federal relief missions.
