Albany, Ga. – Albany State University (ASU) and Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in September to streamline higher education access, transfer, and degree completion support for CGTC students, with an emphasis on student-athlete support.
“CGTC has a strong tradition of developing transfer opportunities with University System of Georgia partners, and we are thrilled to add Albany State as a premier destination for our students,” said Dr. David VanLandingham, CGTC’s Executive Director for Academic Affairs Operations. “Academic Affairs encourages CGTC students to explore the quality of ASU programs and strongly consider them as a destination to achieve their academic and athletic goals.”
ASU President Dr. Robert Scott and CGTC President Dr. Ivan H. Allen signed the agreement alongside leaders from both institutions.

VanLandingham added that the intention of both institutions to support student-athletes and explore ways to partner in athletics is innovative and noteworthy.
CGTC athletic programs competing in Division 1 of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) have seen a positive transfer rate to four-year universities to continue their athletic and academic goals. Still, this MOU gives students an option in Georgia with programs aligned to CGTC and helps student-athletes understand academic transfer requirements, degree applicability, admissions processes, and available institutional resources.
The MOU does not guarantee a student-athlete admission to ASU, placement on an ASU athletics roster, athletics eligibility, playing time, or an athletics scholarship or other financial aid. Recruitment and commitment are all handled through appropriate institutional procedures, but it does signal to student-athletes that they have new and supportive options.
In addition to athletics, the MOU establishes priority transfer pathways for faculty review, curriculum mapping, and development of program-specific articulation pathways. This includes transfer of CGTC’s newest Associate of Science degrees in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, and Education, into ASU’s respective Bachelor’s Degree programs. This builds on the existing RN to BSN articulation agreement with the Darton College of Health Professions of ASU through the USG agreement with the Technical College System of Georgia.
CGTC Students will see more of a presence from ASU at resource fairs and transfer events as the institutions work collaboratively to market the available options for students.
