WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) has announced the appointment of Steve Anderson as the College’s Chief of Police, succeeding Chief Bob Wilbanks following his retirement after 20 years of distinguished service to the institution.
Anderson brings years of public safety experience and institutional leadership to the role after having most recently served as Lieutenant with the CGTC Police Department. Throughout his tenure, he has played a critical role in strengthening campus safety initiatives, advancing professional standards, and fostering a culture of service centered on students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Most recently, Anderson led the College’s efforts as Certification Manager during the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP) state certification process. Through his efforts, the department successfully achieved state certification making CGTC one of fewer than 140 certified law enforcement agencies in Georgia, and contributing to the Technical College System of Georgia’s (TCSG) historic achievement of having every college police department earn state certification simultaneously—the first statewide higher education system in the nation to accomplish the milestone.
As Certification Manager, Anderson coordinated policy development, training initiatives, evidence management, and compliance documentation while working alongside other campus departments and TCSG leadership to ensure the College’s Police Department met the rigorous professional standards established by GACP.

The CGTC Police Department covers all CGTC locations including three campuses, the GA VECTR Center, and the Aerospace Training Center adjacent to the Middle GA Regional Airport. In addition to P.O.S.T.-certified police officers, the department also employs security personnel to monitor and help ensure safety of students and visitors.

Anderson said he is honored to continue serving the College and its communities in his new leadership role.

The appointment reflects the College’s ongoing commitment to providing a secure learning environment that supports student success while maintaining the highest standards of accountability, professionalism, and public trust. Chief Anderson will provide oversight for both the Police Department and security personnel at all CGTC locations across the College’s 11-county service delivery area.
