Headshot of Dr. Sonny PerdueWarner Robins, Ga. – Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) has announced the approval of the naming of its Administration building on the Warner Robins campus as the “Dr. Sonny Perdue Administration Building,” honoring Dr. George Ervin “Sonny” Perdue, III for his distinguished record of public service and steadfast support of higher education in Georgia.

The naming was approved as part of a motion presented to State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) at its May 7 meeting. The building is located at the College’s main campus at 80 Cohen Walker Drive and houses the College’s offices of Academic Affairs, Adult Education, Enrollment Services, Student Affairs, and General Education classrooms.

Dr. Perdue, a Houston County native, was recognized by the College’s Board of Directors and the TCSG State Board as a great friend and benefactor of the college whose leadership and advocacy helped shape the institution’s growth and success. During more than a decade of service in the Georgia Senate, Dr. Perdue worked to secure funding for the design, construction, and equipping of the Warner Robins campus of Middle Georgia Technical College, which is now Central Georgia Technical College.

In addition to his legislative service, Dr. Perdue served eight years as Georgia’s 81st Governor and later served the nation as U.S. Secretary of Agriculture from 2017 through 2021. Prior to his career in public office, he served as a Captain in the United States Air Force.

In 2022, Dr. Perdue was appointed the 14th Chancellor of the University System of Georgia. Recently, Dr. Perdue announced his retirement from this role as of July 1, 2026. He noted, “serving as chancellor has been one of the most impactful roles of life.”

“The naming of the Dr. Sonny Perdue Administration Building reflects the tremendous respect and appreciation held for Dr. Perdue across the College and the Central Georgia community,” said Dr. Ivan H. Allen, president of CGTC. “His commitment to education, public service, and economic development has positively impacted our state, our nation, and the global economy. CGTC appreciates his support and friendship over the years, and we are proud to recognize his tremendous impact on the lives of others through this building naming.”

Prior to his public service, Dr. Perdue also distinguished himself professionally as a veterinarian and entrepreneur in Houston County while consistently promoting the value of higher education and workforce development to the continued growth and prosperity of Georgia and the nation. Born in Perry, and a graduate of Warner Robins High School, Perdue grew up in Bonaire and remains a resident of Houston County. He is married to Mary and they have 4 children, 14 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

In the coming months, signage will be prominently displayed on the building to recognize the naming, and the College will host an unveiling celebration ceremony to commemorate the occasion.
