University System of Georgia and Technical College System of Georgia Sign Landmark Agreement to Expand General Education Course Transfers

Warner Robins, Ga. – Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) students now have more options than ever to transfer courses into public colleges and universities in the University System of Georgia (USG) as a result of an expanded articulation agreement between Georgia’s two higher education systems.

In a significant advancement for student mobility and academic alignment, USG and the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) expanded the historic agreement in May 2025 to add ten more General Education Courses to the transfer chart, bringing the statewide total to 38. This agreement strengthens the commitment of both systems to providing seamless transfer pathways and improving access to higher education across Georgia.

Under the expanded agreement, a broader selection of general education courses – 32 at CGTC – are now eligible for transfer between TCSG’s and USG’s respective accredited institutions. This initiative will streamline the transition for students pursuing credentials across technical colleges and universities, saving time and reducing duplication of coursework.

Key Provisions of the Agreement:

  • Course Equivalency Guidelines: Course equivalents apply only if the receiving USG institution offers a comparable course. If a comparable course is not available, general elective credit will be granted within the approved appropriate domains.
  • Reciprocal Transfer Standards: Transfers from USG to TCSG institutions will follow the same guidelines to ensure consistency and fairness.
  • Legislative Requirements: All USG students are required to meet legislative requirements in U.S. and Georgia History and the U.S. and Georgia Constitutions. This requirement can be satisfied by completing HIST 2111 or HIST 2112, and POLS 1101.
  • New Transfer-Eligible Courses: COMM 1100, ENGL 2110, ENGL 2310, MUSC 1101, POLS 2401, PSYC 2103, RELG 1101, SPAN 1101, SPAN 1102, and THEA 1101 have been added to the General Education Course Transfer Chart as of May 2025. To qualify for transfer under this agreement, these courses must be completed at a TCSG or USG institution during Summer 2025 or later semesters. Courses taken prior to Summer 2025 may be accepted at the discretion of the receiving institution.

“This agreement means a wealth of new opportunities for our students who wish to continue their education with the University System and shows Georgia’s commitment to expanding opportunities and reducing barriers for students,” said Dr. Al Harmon, associate vice president for Academic Affairs at CGTC. “By building more robust transfer pathways, Georgia is empowering students to pursue their goals without unnecessary delay.”
