CGTC Athletic Programs and Student-Athletes Earn NJCAA Academic Honors

Macon, GA – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) recently announced the 2020-21 Academic Teams of the Year. Despite circumstances due to COVID-19, NJCAA student-athletes flourished in the classroom as 820 teams earned at least a 3.0 GPA or better.

For the second-consecutive year, the CGTC women’s basketball program has been recognized as an NJCAA Academic Team of the Year. The Lady Titans earned a 3.55 GPA for the 2020-21 academic year, the ninth-highest GPA in the NJCAA for women’s basketball.

Being named an NJCAA Academic Team of the Year for the first time in program history, the CGTC men’s basketball program boasted a 3.57 GPA. The team GPA was the second-highest for men’s basketball in the Association for the academic year.

Adding to this year’s success on the course after being named the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) men’s cross country champions, the CGTC men’s cross country team also earned NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors with a 3.26 GPA. The team GPA was the tenth-highest for men’s cross country in the Association for the academic year.

2020-2021 marks the first time in program history that multiple CGTC athletic programs have earned NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors in the same year.

In addition to receiving team accolades, sixteen CGTC student-athletes were named to NJCAA All-Academic Teams. To receive this recognition, student-athletes must have achieved an overall GPA of 3.60 or higher for the 2020-21 academic year. The criteria for the three all-academic teams is as follows:

NJCAA All-Academic First Team: 4.00 GPA
NJCAA All-Academic Second Team: 3.80-3.99 GPA
NJCAA All-Academic Third Team: 3.60-3.79 GPA
