WEBVTT 1 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:08.939 And get started welcome to our dual enrollment, virtual information sessions. This is intended for parent students. 2 00:00:08.939 --> 00:00:15.808 High school administrators, anybody that really wanted to learn more about dual enrollment at. 3 00:00:15.808 --> 00:00:19.618 Tim gun the director of hospital is. 4 00:00:19.618 --> 00:00:32.280 Initiatives here at central to technical college, thank you. All so much for joining us. This session is being recorded and the reason for that is just so that we're able to share this. 5 00:00:32.280 --> 00:00:36.659 Presentation with other families that weren't able to join. 6 00:00:36.659 --> 00:00:39.780 And we'll put this on our dual enrollment web page. 7 00:00:39.780 --> 00:00:43.469 For a later viewing and listening. 8 00:00:47.100 --> 00:00:52.350 So, again, welcome, enrollment is a very important part. 9 00:00:52.350 --> 00:01:07.314 Of our total enrollment at central Georgia, technical college. This is a picture of our president Dr Ivan Allen and dual enrollment has always been something. That's very important to him. I like to say, even before dual enrollment was cool. 10 00:01:07.465 --> 00:01:09.564 He's always been very committed. 11 00:01:09.900 --> 00:01:13.560 To this program into the success of our students. 12 00:01:13.560 --> 00:01:20.340 So last academic school year, we enrolled over 2700, dual enrollment students. 13 00:01:20.340 --> 00:01:26.280 And those students were primarily in our service delivery area, which is 12 counties. 14 00:01:26.280 --> 00:01:30.510 And central Georgia, that ranges all all the way from Putnam. 15 00:01:30.510 --> 00:01:34.950 To Monroe all the way down to duly County, but we also serve. 16 00:01:34.950 --> 00:01:38.400 Students in Atlanta and South, Georgia. Savannah. 17 00:01:38.400 --> 00:01:45.659 That we really have students all over the state of Georgia that are able to take advantage of this incredible program. 18 00:01:45.659 --> 00:01:52.709 So this past fall semester, we had over 2200 students, which was no small. 19 00:01:52.709 --> 00:02:02.965 Because in the summer new rules and regulations around dual enrollment were put into place and that was really intended to to cut dual enrollment. 20 00:02:02.965 --> 00:02:09.145 So we were very proud of the 2200 dual enrollment students that we were able to enroll fall semester. 21 00:02:10.919 --> 00:02:20.879 Uh, this spring we have a little over 1700 students, so again, dual enrollment comprises a large part of total enrollment at. 22 00:02:22.560 --> 00:02:28.889 So, what is dual enrollment? It is essentially where high school students can take college courses. 23 00:02:28.889 --> 00:02:34.860 And have those courses count for both high school and college credit. 24 00:02:34.860 --> 00:02:45.180 So, you are really getting a 2 for 1 we have a wide range of courses so students can take technical or what we call occupational programs. 25 00:02:45.180 --> 00:02:48.900 They can, or they could take academic courses. 26 00:02:51.449 --> 00:02:56.159 Sorry, I'm sure all of you just got an ambush Amber alert as well. I apologize. 27 00:02:56.159 --> 00:03:07.259 So, students can also take there are 27 core academic courses that are transferable to university system colleges. 28 00:03:07.259 --> 00:03:20.849 So, if your student intends to go and get a 4 year degree in, wants to go to Canada or Georgia Southern, or they can still attend central border, technical college and take core courses, such as English. 29 00:03:20.849 --> 00:03:25.409 11 one's psychology, college, algebra speech. 30 00:03:25.409 --> 00:03:35.009 History, and that is a link on the slide that you're seeing that takes you to. We call that the general articulation transfer agreement. 31 00:03:35.009 --> 00:03:43.379 And that's available on our website, but I also wanted to talk for just a minute about the value of our technical programs. 32 00:03:43.379 --> 00:03:49.680 A lot of parents, when they think of dual enrollment, they do think of those core courses and those are important. 33 00:03:49.680 --> 00:04:02.250 And they're wonderful, we have more academic students staying at after they graduate, because we now have a 2 year associates degree in general studies. 34 00:04:02.250 --> 00:04:09.389 So, that's certainly an option, but sometimes a 2 or 4 year degree isn't the best fit for all students? 35 00:04:09.389 --> 00:04:19.615 So, if you have a student that likes to work with their hands, or they're ready to go straight into the workforce, we have a lot of technical options for dual enrollment as well. 36 00:04:19.915 --> 00:04:26.605 And those programs they vary by the county that the county that they live in, only because of location. 37 00:04:26.908 --> 00:04:34.259 But those programs are nurse aid, aircraft, structural technology, welding, automotive. 38 00:04:34.259 --> 00:04:39.478 Criminal Justice cosmetology, barbering, industrial systems. 39 00:04:39.478 --> 00:04:50.338 And and some of those programs, we have business and industry, local business and industry at the other end that are willing to hire students. 40 00:04:50.338 --> 00:04:53.848 And the great thing about technical dual enrollment is that. 41 00:04:53.848 --> 00:04:58.619 Almost all of those programs, they complete a certificate in 1 year. 42 00:04:58.619 --> 00:05:09.749 And which makes them at what we call a, or a certificate completer on the college that and makes them a pathway completer on the high school side. 43 00:05:09.749 --> 00:05:18.209 So, parents just don't discount those technical options because those can be a viable option for your student as well. 44 00:05:18.209 --> 00:05:28.439 So, full tuition is covered by dual enrollment funding and what that means is, as long as you're a student of class for dual enrollment sending, and we'll talk about that a little bit later. 45 00:05:28.439 --> 00:05:31.889 100% of their tuition would be cover. 46 00:05:31.889 --> 00:05:36.059 And then central Georgia technical college is going to wave. 47 00:05:36.059 --> 00:05:40.499 The fees and book costs for all high school students. 48 00:05:40.499 --> 00:05:47.278 And let me put that plainly that ends up being anywhere from 3. 49 00:05:47.278 --> 00:05:52.168 100 dollars per student to a 1000 just depending on what their book costs are. 50 00:05:52.168 --> 00:06:06.923 So, parents, that's a value to you that you would not have to pay and that's covered. That's not true. All across the state at different colleges. So we think that's a value to our families. 51 00:06:07.228 --> 00:06:11.999 Another thing to know, is that if students do dual enrollment. 52 00:06:11.999 --> 00:06:24.478 Their high school schedule is likely going to be impacted. So, this really is a marriage between high school and college. So the student has to work closely with both sides of the house. 53 00:06:24.478 --> 00:06:30.538 Um, to make sure that requirements are met, because at the end of the day, the high school counselor is just. 54 00:06:30.538 --> 00:06:35.519 They want to make sure that the student has what they need to graduate from high school. 55 00:06:35.519 --> 00:06:43.319 Angel enrollment in college credit is just kind of in addition to that. So, to make all of that work together is super important. 56 00:06:43.319 --> 00:06:47.519 And we'll kind of we'll kind of dig into that in a few seconds. 57 00:06:47.519 --> 00:06:52.829 So very important. Some new regulations went into effect this summer. 58 00:06:52.829 --> 00:06:55.949 The 2020 that. 59 00:06:55.949 --> 00:07:02.129 That really implement some restrictions on dual enrollment, but that is just so that the program can be. 60 00:07:02.129 --> 00:07:07.408 Um, viable for the future, because the way that we were going as a state dual enrollment. 61 00:07:07.408 --> 00:07:16.978 Had no limits no cap, no requirement or no grade requirements. So students were just, you know, taking. 62 00:07:16.978 --> 00:07:26.819 I don't know 6100, credit hours. I mean, it was just a lot and we, as a state of Georgia couldn't afford it to continue as it was going. 63 00:07:26.819 --> 00:07:30.389 And so legislation was passed last. 64 00:07:30.389 --> 00:07:36.418 To kind of put some guardrails on that so that this can be a sustainable program for the future. 65 00:07:36.418 --> 00:07:43.139 The most important of those is, there is now a 30 hour semester. Our credit cap. 66 00:07:43.139 --> 00:07:49.139 So each dual enrollment student, moving forward can take 30 credit hours. 67 00:07:49.139 --> 00:07:52.499 Which is approximately 10 college classes. 68 00:07:52.499 --> 00:07:56.728 Under the dual enrollment funding program and then after that. 69 00:07:56.728 --> 00:08:00.059 That would be to the responsibility of the student or parent. 70 00:08:00.059 --> 00:08:07.439 And there's a few exceptions, and a few bridges, but those are very limited. So, 30 hours. 71 00:08:07.439 --> 00:08:11.129 For full enrollments students. 72 00:08:13.079 --> 00:08:26.069 Okay, also there are some grade guidelines, so we're gonna talk about that on the next slide and then there's a kind of a subset it's called option B or what we used to call Senate bill to. 73 00:08:26.069 --> 00:08:31.588 And that's where students are choosing a a very alternate path to graduation. 74 00:08:31.588 --> 00:08:40.139 So, they're kind of choosing a different route to graduate from high school and by doing so, for the college that. 75 00:08:40.139 --> 00:08:43.379 They must complete an associates degree. 76 00:08:43.379 --> 00:08:48.208 An entire diploma, which is for us a technical diploma. 77 00:08:48.208 --> 00:08:53.879 Or 2, technical certificates of credit in a very specified field. 78 00:08:53.879 --> 00:08:59.278 And for us, those fields are networking, cyber security and welding. 79 00:08:59.278 --> 00:09:08.788 Again, it's a very alternate path, and it's got a lot of parameters around that. So, if you're interested in an alternate path to graduation for your student. 80 00:09:08.788 --> 00:09:14.129 I would encourage you to probably reach out to your high school counselor. 81 00:09:14.129 --> 00:09:20.578 Or your central board of technical college, high school initiatives coordinator here. 82 00:09:20.578 --> 00:09:27.808 Because that that program is not for everyone, I think in the state of Georgia right now, we throw that 100. 83 00:09:27.808 --> 00:09:32.099 Or so option be most students fall in the other. 84 00:09:32.099 --> 00:09:35.969 Category, which is a part time status for dual enrollment. 85 00:09:38.639 --> 00:09:44.068 Okay, so what are the requirements to be admitted into central Georgia technical college? 86 00:09:44.068 --> 00:09:49.379 So, 1st, the student is going to complete the dual enrollment application. 87 00:09:49.379 --> 00:09:52.619 And we do waive the application fee. 88 00:09:52.619 --> 00:10:01.168 And then students can submit 1 of these measures so they can submit essay T or P. S. A. T. scores. 89 00:10:01.168 --> 00:10:06.298 The 17 reading, 17 writing, 21 math. 90 00:10:06.298 --> 00:10:12.989 Or scores of a 16 reading 14 English. 91 00:10:12.989 --> 00:10:18.899 17 math, or they can submit at a high school transcript. 92 00:10:18.899 --> 00:10:21.958 showing at two point oh or higher . 93 00:10:21.958 --> 00:10:27.359 Now, if you're a parent listening, and you have a student that attended years ago. 94 00:10:27.359 --> 00:10:36.058 This looks a little bit different. We no longer offer the ACU place or test for now because of. 95 00:10:36.058 --> 00:10:40.259 And we've had some very strict restrictions on testing. 96 00:10:40.259 --> 00:10:44.428 And so our commissioner of the technical college system. 97 00:10:44.428 --> 00:10:47.788 Has placed this 2.0. 98 00:10:47.788 --> 00:10:55.019 High school GPA admissions, measure as a placement measures so we're able to use the 2.0. 99 00:10:55.019 --> 00:10:59.578 For acceptance to the college through fall 2021. 100 00:10:59.578 --> 00:11:04.139 So we're not sure if that's going to be in place for spring, 2022. 101 00:11:04.139 --> 00:11:12.058 But if you're interested in summer or fall, you can certainly use that 2.0T or higher to be admitted to the college. 102 00:11:12.058 --> 00:11:18.028 If you are submitting or scores. 103 00:11:18.028 --> 00:11:21.479 We do request that you send your students for court. 104 00:11:21.479 --> 00:11:26.249 To your high school coordinator with your test. 105 00:11:26.249 --> 00:11:31.048 Date your phone and your test scores. 106 00:11:31.048 --> 00:11:41.099 We cannot accept a picture from your phone test scores. We do need the students for report with those 3 items. 107 00:11:41.099 --> 00:11:44.219 But if you log in to your college board account. 108 00:11:44.219 --> 00:11:49.708 And click on student score report, you can download that and send it at no charge. 109 00:11:49.708 --> 00:12:01.558 We don't need the official scores to be sent from college board because that is going to cost you money. You're welcome to do that. But if you just download the students for report, there's no charge. 110 00:12:01.558 --> 00:12:05.849 And then most importantly, permission from your high school counselor. 111 00:12:05.849 --> 00:12:17.938 And this is incredibly important. This is what makes it free is that the high school counselor approves what your child is taking at the college. 112 00:12:17.938 --> 00:12:27.359 And we're going to talk about that process in a minute. So please that some high schools do ask for proof of acceptance. 113 00:12:27.359 --> 00:12:34.288 As part of their checklist at the high school, so you may want to print off that acceptance email. 114 00:12:34.288 --> 00:12:38.879 And make sure that your child's counsellor gets that information. 115 00:12:38.879 --> 00:12:45.599 Because a lot of our school districts have implemented some pretty strict deadlines as it relates to dual enrollment. 116 00:12:45.599 --> 00:12:50.609 A few of those, if you're listening and this is 1 of your counties. 117 00:12:50.609 --> 00:12:55.048 Leslie county has a deadline for both summer and fall. 118 00:12:55.048 --> 00:13:01.408 Dual enrollment of March 31st, peach counties deadline is April 9th. 119 00:13:01.408 --> 00:13:05.548 House and counties deadline is may 7th. 120 00:13:05.548 --> 00:13:09.538 The County's deadline is May 1st. 121 00:13:09.538 --> 00:13:13.739 And Jones county's deadline is April thirtieth. 122 00:13:13.739 --> 00:13:17.668 And so students we want to make sure that you get in get. 123 00:13:17.668 --> 00:13:26.818 Accepted register to the college, everything is done before those deadlines so that you can give that paperwork to the counselor and they'll sign off on you. 124 00:13:26.818 --> 00:13:34.438 They have to really put strict deadlines in place because dual enrollment has become so large. 125 00:13:34.438 --> 00:13:38.788 Their master schedules are built upon it, so that's a critical piece. 126 00:13:39.989 --> 00:13:50.639 So, let's talk about funding for a moment 1 of the most important steps that you're going to take, and you can go ahead and do this. As soon as we get off this web. 127 00:13:50.639 --> 00:13:57.089 Is have your student complete the dual enrollment funding application? 128 00:13:57.089 --> 00:14:00.208 On g. A. future's dot org. 129 00:14:00.208 --> 00:14:04.259 And we do have a step by step guide on how to complete that. 130 00:14:04.259 --> 00:14:09.869 Georgia student finance has an 11 minute video that you can also watch. 131 00:14:09.869 --> 00:14:14.879 Um, but parents, this is not fast, but it doesn't ask for any tax information. 132 00:14:14.879 --> 00:14:18.808 Once your student sets up their account in Georgia features. 133 00:14:18.808 --> 00:14:24.568 That'll apply for dual enrollment funding. You will receive an email as the parents. 134 00:14:24.568 --> 00:14:29.458 To sign off on your student, participating into dual enrollment. 135 00:14:29.458 --> 00:14:35.308 And that is what's going to allow your students to register for college classes. 136 00:14:35.308 --> 00:14:42.479 So this is critical that that students and parents do their part of Georgia features. 137 00:14:42.479 --> 00:14:45.509 Because we won't be able to register them for. 138 00:14:45.509 --> 00:14:49.589 Summer and fall classes until that's done. 139 00:14:49.589 --> 00:14:55.619 The good news is the application has to be completed once per year. 140 00:14:55.619 --> 00:14:58.948 So this will take you about 10 minutes to complete. 141 00:14:58.948 --> 00:15:02.938 And that will cover your student for summer fall and spring. 142 00:15:02.938 --> 00:15:06.448 But the parent approval is critical. 143 00:15:06.448 --> 00:15:11.548 Because what we saw this past semester was students would complete their portion. 144 00:15:11.548 --> 00:15:18.658 But the parent wouldn't click on the link in their email and complete the parent section and until both. 145 00:15:18.658 --> 00:15:21.749 Portions are done, will we be able to register. 146 00:15:21.749 --> 00:15:35.994 Then for their college classes, and I do want to note, there is a chat box. Y'all are more than welcome to put your questions as you think of them in the chat box. 147 00:15:35.994 --> 00:15:37.014 But at the end. 148 00:15:37.349 --> 00:15:40.739 We will have time for some question and answer. 149 00:15:40.739 --> 00:15:46.979 So, if you're like me, if you don't ask right away, you might forget. So please feel free to use that chat. 150 00:15:46.979 --> 00:15:54.869 Thoughts if you wish so, let's talk about the regulations that the new rules, if you will. 151 00:15:54.869 --> 00:15:58.708 So most importantly, 30 hour cap for all students. 152 00:15:58.708 --> 00:16:04.048 The students can no longer can complete an associates degree under dual enrollment. 153 00:16:04.048 --> 00:16:11.639 An associates degree is about 60 hours, so they can get about halfway there which parents is still a wonderful about, you. 154 00:16:11.639 --> 00:16:16.379 For your students to be able to take 30 college credit hours and. 155 00:16:16.379 --> 00:16:19.798 You not have to pay for it and it not touch their hope. 156 00:16:19.798 --> 00:16:23.339 So, 9th graders are no longer funded. 157 00:16:23.339 --> 00:16:29.818 Writer could take a class, but they would be what we consider self pay. 158 00:16:29.818 --> 00:16:36.028 And the only caution I would use about being self pay. 159 00:16:36.028 --> 00:16:42.178 Is that you, the student and parent would need to make sure that the high school counselor is aware. 160 00:16:42.178 --> 00:16:50.099 And is willing to accept that pay class as high school credit if, if you want it to be. 161 00:16:50.099 --> 00:16:57.269 Otherwise, it's just you're paying for a college class and your students are in college credit. 162 00:16:57.269 --> 00:17:00.389 Save 10th graders. 163 00:17:00.389 --> 00:17:05.759 Fighters have a few step stipulations. They can take any technical program. 164 00:17:05.759 --> 00:17:12.929 So, if they are at a career Academy, and they want to do welding or on our side, or. 165 00:17:12.929 --> 00:17:18.449 Criminal Justice, they can enroll in any of our technical occupational programs. 166 00:17:18.449 --> 00:17:23.278 However, 10th graders cannot take academic courses. 167 00:17:23.278 --> 00:17:27.929 Unless they had those high achieving scores. 168 00:17:27.929 --> 00:17:33.778 Which is the s, a t1200 or 26 composite? 169 00:17:33.778 --> 00:17:37.378 And those scores are sent to Georgia student finance. 170 00:17:37.378 --> 00:17:45.659 To be signed off on before their 8 is awarded so we currently don't have any tents that. 171 00:17:45.659 --> 00:17:52.648 That are doing academic, dual enrollment that aren't self pay. So again, your 10th grader could take academics. 172 00:17:52.648 --> 00:17:57.749 But if they didn't have those scores, then they would be what we consider self pay. 173 00:17:57.749 --> 00:18:01.828 In a note about South pay, remember we're only charging. 174 00:18:01.828 --> 00:18:09.868 Standard tuition, right. We're still waving fees and foot costs for all high school students, which, which is a big value. 175 00:18:09.868 --> 00:18:12.959 Then 11st and 12nd graders. 176 00:18:12.959 --> 00:18:17.489 Can take both academics and or technical programs. 177 00:18:17.489 --> 00:18:21.838 Okay, but all students have the 30 hour cap now. 178 00:18:21.838 --> 00:18:27.269 There are also strict rules about withdrawing from courses. 179 00:18:27.269 --> 00:18:34.798 So, students, dual enrollment students are only allowed to course withdrawals after the 2nd, 1. 180 00:18:34.798 --> 00:18:40.169 From the class, they are no longer eligible for dual enrollment funding. 181 00:18:40.169 --> 00:18:49.709 And this is a big 1, we have high school students that that will enroll into classes and then they get here. And this is. 182 00:18:49.709 --> 00:18:54.328 Just a shocker remember, this is college, so this is a whole. 183 00:18:54.328 --> 00:19:00.179 Different playing field, so to speak this is different from what they're used to. 184 00:19:00.179 --> 00:19:03.778 And so sometimes students might feel overwhelmed or. 185 00:19:03.778 --> 00:19:11.939 Um, rather than fail class, they decide to withdraw and they can do that because withdraws don't impact their college. 186 00:19:11.939 --> 00:19:15.538 However, they do impact their past, right? 187 00:19:15.538 --> 00:19:22.348 And if they withdraw from 2 as a dual enrollment student, they are no longer eligible for funding. 188 00:19:22.348 --> 00:19:28.919 Dual enrollment also no longer covers class. Retakes. 189 00:19:28.919 --> 00:19:41.548 So, if a student were to fail a class, or say, a student made a D in English, 11, 0, 1, but in order to go to American lit or English, 11 or 2, they need a C or higher. 190 00:19:41.548 --> 00:19:49.888 So the student would be responsible for paying the tuition to retake that English 11 0, 1 class. 191 00:19:53.578 --> 00:20:02.788 But what school enrollment cover again it covers full tuition, which for technical colleges in Georgia is 100 dollars per credit hour. 192 00:20:02.788 --> 00:20:07.108 So, for example, if you're taking us history, 200111. 193 00:20:07.108 --> 00:20:12.898 The tuition for that course is 300 dollars. 194 00:20:12.898 --> 00:20:22.259 They were talking about it and then if I can ask to me a little bit of feedback, what's an 11 0, 1 class. 195 00:20:23.308 --> 00:20:27.479 Sorry about that. 196 00:20:27.479 --> 00:20:30.868 Um, if you're taking a history 200111. 197 00:20:30.868 --> 00:20:34.558 That's U. S. history. That's a 3 credit hour class. 198 00:20:34.558 --> 00:20:37.858 So, the tuition for that course would be 300 dollars. 199 00:20:38.969 --> 00:20:45.509 Right so dual enrollment covers full tuition. The college is waving fees and books. 200 00:20:45.509 --> 00:20:52.288 For high school students, and then dual enrollment students can take up to 15 credit hours per semester. 201 00:20:52.288 --> 00:20:55.318 And you actually can attend multiple colleges. 202 00:20:55.318 --> 00:21:02.969 In the same time, but again, they can't go over that 15 credit hours and the 30 hour cap filled as a. 203 00:21:04.709 --> 00:21:09.598 So, why is dual enrollment so important for so many different reasons? 204 00:21:09.598 --> 00:21:13.499 It can give high school students exposure to college courses. 205 00:21:13.499 --> 00:21:16.919 It can give them a jumpstart on their college career. 206 00:21:16.919 --> 00:21:22.138 It's a way for them to really get their toe in the college water and get a jumpstart. 207 00:21:22.138 --> 00:21:28.229 While they're still at home with the support of parents and high school counselor. 208 00:21:28.229 --> 00:21:31.618 And their high school coordinator. 209 00:21:31.618 --> 00:21:38.368 We have tutoring library services. We have all kinds of things in place to help them be successful. 210 00:21:38.368 --> 00:21:42.838 But again, this is college, so it's a. 211 00:21:42.838 --> 00:21:51.568 We want to make sure that parents and students truly understand what it is that they're signing up for, and that they're ready for that rigor and pace. 212 00:21:51.568 --> 00:21:55.409 As college courses, and it really boost. 213 00:21:55.409 --> 00:22:02.009 Students morale and confidence when they see themselves succeed. We have a lot of 1st generation students. 214 00:22:02.009 --> 00:22:08.669 We have students that may not that have ever thought about going to college, but they're in. 215 00:22:08.669 --> 00:22:14.098 Um, maybe 1 of our technical programs, or they're taking a class and when they complete. 216 00:22:14.098 --> 00:22:22.169 Those courses, or get a certificate and then industries are trying to scout them to get them to come to work. There is, um. 217 00:22:22.169 --> 00:22:32.608 There's value in that, and they're contributing to our economy in central Georgia said there's just really far reaching benefits. And what I love about this time of year. 218 00:22:32.608 --> 00:22:36.298 Is really hearing where all our students are going next. 219 00:22:36.298 --> 00:22:39.598 Some are staying here and they're going to finish their associates. 220 00:22:39.598 --> 00:22:43.439 Summer going off, we've learned about 1 of our. 221 00:22:43.439 --> 00:22:47.638 Students at a local high school that's finishing high school. 222 00:22:47.638 --> 00:22:54.659 2 years early was early acceptance and university, and she's getting a merit scholarship. 223 00:22:54.659 --> 00:23:02.398 We have students that are going to work at coca, cola and Geico. So, I mean, there's all kinds of great. 224 00:23:02.398 --> 00:23:07.348 Success stories, so this really can be a launching pad. 225 00:23:07.348 --> 00:23:10.888 For high school students to take advantage of this program. 226 00:23:10.888 --> 00:23:18.749 And then, of course, it also helps improve high school graduation rate. 91%. 227 00:23:18.749 --> 00:23:23.038 Of students that are in dual enrollment graduate on time. 228 00:23:23.038 --> 00:23:30.298 Which is higher than the States graduation, right? So we do know that it has great benefits. 229 00:23:30.298 --> 00:23:39.058 On that side as well so a few things to remember, and then we're going to do some introductions and I'm going to let you talk to. 230 00:23:39.058 --> 00:23:44.459 The high school coordinators, and they'll kind of talk about all their different areas. 231 00:23:44.459 --> 00:23:53.038 So, we don't allow our dual enrollment student to register themselves. And the reason for that is because of all of these rules that we've talked about. 232 00:23:53.038 --> 00:23:58.528 And we need to make sure that the high school counselor is aware, and that they're going to sign off. 233 00:23:58.528 --> 00:24:05.699 On their students, so you have to go through your central Georgia Tech, high school coordinator to register. 234 00:24:05.699 --> 00:24:11.068 Summer and fall registration opens on March 22nd. 235 00:24:11.068 --> 00:24:14.098 And all expected students. 236 00:24:14.098 --> 00:24:20.278 So you got to have the application and either your test scores or transcript to be accepted. 237 00:24:20.278 --> 00:24:24.449 But all accepted students will get information about how to register. 238 00:24:24.449 --> 00:24:27.719 And we're going to do that this spring through a survey. 239 00:24:27.719 --> 00:24:34.888 So, they'll get a flyer with a QR code, and it will kind of walk them through the registration process. We just. 240 00:24:34.888 --> 00:24:47.788 Um, there are so many dual enrollment students. This is the safest way to do it as virtually. So we're going to have advising sessions that the coordinators are going to talk about in a few minutes and then we'll have the survey. 241 00:24:47.788 --> 00:24:56.308 To register for summer fall and then remember students to submit your paperwork to your counselor, your high school counselor. 242 00:24:56.308 --> 00:25:02.788 By their deadline, all of these systems that have put in deadlines are no joke. 243 00:25:02.788 --> 00:25:07.769 The deadline as a firm deadline. So if you turn in your try to turn in your paperwork. 244 00:25:07.769 --> 00:25:18.749 In house and county on May 30th they're going to tell you sorry, it'll be spring for you to enroll. So please make sure that, you know, when those deadlines are and that you're following that. 245 00:25:20.159 --> 00:25:27.568 All of our julen on the students are so whether you're in duly county or Baldwin county. 246 00:25:27.568 --> 00:25:34.858 Or Mary persons, they are our students, so we get them student IDs. We hope that they participate. 247 00:25:34.858 --> 00:25:40.949 In our college functions, that's been a little limited this year because of that. 248 00:25:40.949 --> 00:25:45.479 Uh, we do have basketball games and all kinds of things on campus and again. 249 00:25:45.479 --> 00:25:53.519 We do have free tutoring and library services and lots of very helpful folks on all of our campuses. 250 00:25:53.519 --> 00:25:57.209 That want nothing more than your students to be successful. 251 00:25:57.209 --> 00:26:01.588 So, we always encourage families students to take. 252 00:26:01.588 --> 00:26:05.278 Take advantage of those services and then lastly. 253 00:26:05.278 --> 00:26:12.088 Dual enrollment students, just like all of our students have to meet 2 things to be in what we call. 254 00:26:12.088 --> 00:26:18.959 Satisfactory academic progress that is a 2.0T college, so. 255 00:26:18.959 --> 00:26:22.919 Gesture college course work 2.0T or higher. 256 00:26:22.919 --> 00:26:27.838 And they have to pass 67%. 257 00:26:27.838 --> 00:26:33.898 Of their courses and what that means is if you take 2 college classes. 258 00:26:33.898 --> 00:26:38.338 And you withdraw from 1 of them, you've passed 1. 259 00:26:38.338 --> 00:26:46.679 And then the other, you weren't successful in your past, right? For that semester after that semester would be 50%. 260 00:26:46.679 --> 00:26:49.919 So then the next semester, and they are going to be on warning. 261 00:26:49.919 --> 00:26:56.608 So, high school students, just like all students to qualify for financial aid. 262 00:26:56.608 --> 00:26:59.638 You have to maintain both of those things. 263 00:26:59.638 --> 00:27:02.969 In order to get funding dual enrollment, funding, financial AIDS. 264 00:27:04.528 --> 00:27:15.929 Okay, so we're going to do some introductions. The term begins on June 1st, and goes through July 30. 312 00:33:58.138 --> 00:34:03.959 Students do get July 4th week off. So, parents, if you need to plan a vacation. 313 00:34:03.959 --> 00:34:08.159 But summer can be a good time, maybe to take, like, an elective course. 314 00:34:08.159 --> 00:34:12.958 So, they can kind of get their feet wet and see what the pace is going to be. 315 00:34:12.958 --> 00:34:19.708 Um, but summary is busy, they're, it's a lot when you try to put in, especially if it's their 1st term. 316 00:34:19.708 --> 00:34:26.458 And even if it's online, sometimes it can just be a little overwhelming for students. 317 00:34:26.458 --> 00:34:30.568 I'm to get started that way. Some students just jump right in and. 318 00:34:30.568 --> 00:34:36.418 And get in there and get busy and knock it out cause it's pretty amazing that you can earn an entire. 319 00:34:36.418 --> 00:34:44.969 College course, in 7 weeks, but just be cautious that if you have to stay behind your student to submit things in high school. 320 00:34:44.969 --> 00:34:49.708 And about, you know, timelines deadlines and things like that. 321 00:34:49.708 --> 00:34:54.989 Um, just be mindful then in college at deadline as a deadline. So we want to make sure. 322 00:34:54.989 --> 00:34:59.998 And that they are successful in their college course work, because if they weren't to fail. 323 00:34:59.998 --> 00:35:03.628 A college class, it can't really. 324 00:35:03.628 --> 00:35:09.568 Harm them on both the college and the high school grade point average and in some cases. 325 00:35:09.568 --> 00:35:18.599 Negatively impact their hope eligibility and we certainly don't want to do that. So, just just keep in mind. It is dual credit dual enrollment. 326 00:35:18.599 --> 00:35:24.509 And we want this to be successful for your student.
