Electronics Technology Co-Op Signing Students

(Seated, left to right) Dr. Amy Holloway, CGTC’s vice president of Academic Affairs and ACE Technologies, vice president, Jammie Stalvey, prepare to sign a co-op agreement among Electronics Technology students and staff. The agreement provides students part-time work experience and on-the-job training over a five-week period with the company.

Macon, Ga. – A new co-op agreement signed at Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) between the Electronics Technology (ELCR) program and ACE Technologies will soon have a select group of students begin working and shadowing seasoned technicians.

“I’ve built the tracks, they simply have to put the train on them,” said vice president of ACE Technologies, Jammie Stalvey, on his vision to fulfill a transition of talented students to future jobs in his field. He and CGTC’s vice president of Academic Affairs, Dr. Amy Holloway signed the agreement on the College’s Macon campus.

This partnership allows ACE Technologies, which operates out of Hahira, Ga., to work with formally trained students from the College in a real-world, hands-on setting with the possibility of employment upon completion of the co-op period and graduation from their program of study. The company has a newly opened facility in Macon where students are likely to spend the majority of their time working and learning.

One to two students out of a pool of candidates will be selected to work one day a week for five weeks over the course of a semester. The candidates were present at the agreement signing, having an opportunity to listen directly to Stalvey’s pitch and the expectations from program instructors. Following the meeting, interested students interviewed for the positions.

“This is really a living and active co-op agreement,” said Dr. Jeffrey Hoffman, instructor of Electronics Technology. “We are gaining our bearings as we move along. Because our students have active skills, they can provide something to ACE that is greater than a clean slate.”

Ace Technologies provides service for and installation of a wide variety of low voltage communication, security and life safety electronic systems. With a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) on staff the company designs and builds voice/data, CCTV and intercom designs.

The agreement sets forth a set of responsibilities for each party involved. Each party must adhere to those responsibilities throughout the duration of the program.

Selected participants will be paid as part-time employees during their time with the company.
