Goal 5: Educational Awareness for Community Development
Contribute to the economic prosperity, quality of life, and education
culture of central Georgias communities by increasing
availability of continuing education, strengthening community involvement,
and raising public awareness of the benefits of CGTC technical and
adult education services.
Desired Long-term Outcome
Increase the market penetration of CGTC programs and services throughout
the service area by 2% per year.*
Objectives
5A. Increase the number of communities
approved for CLCP participation each year to ensure that each county
in the CGTC service area is a CLCP participant by FY2007.
- Explore the possibility of two or more smaller counties joining
together to form one CLCP participating community.
- Communicate the value of a CLCP designation and its impact on
improving the literacy rate and quality of the entire community.
5A1. Increase participation in the CLCP each year by
promoting the program as a means to create a broad-based education
culture and to encourage, support, and facilitate life-long
learning for everyone within the community.
- Broaden the CLCP program to include basic computer literacy
and Internet skills training to serve population segments
such as older people who are highly literate but unfamiliar
with technology
- Expand the CLCP emphasis to include an educational attainment
ladder that begins with basic literacy, progresses to high
school or GED completion, moves on to postsecondary education,
and continues with life-long learning and retraining.
5B. Establish and implement a CGTC communications
and public awareness strategy and continue the strategy, with refinements,
each year through FY2007.
- Participate in the ongoing development of DTAE marketing plans
and develop comprehensive CGTC marketing plans that capitalize
and build on the statewide plan.
- Develop and promote a comprehensive CGTC market position (ahead
of the curve, higher levels of learning, high
tech training and education, and advanced programs)
and emphasize the market position in presentations, advertisements,
marketing pieces, and other documents.
- Continue collaborations with secondary education in CGTC marketing
efforts.
5C. Develop and implement a CGTC strategy
for recruiting students and attracting economic development program
customers and continue the strategy, with refinements, each year
through FY2007.
- Participate in statewide recruitment efforts, and develop and
implement local recruitment plans or CGTC that capitalize on the
statewide plan, as appropriate.
- Capitalize on summer programs for middle school and high school
students, for K-12 teachers, and for four-year college students.
- Enhance and broaden integrated marketing strategies to attract
increased CGTC economic development program customers
- Develop a closer working relationship between CGTC economic
development programs and technical program advisory committees
to make them aware of CGTC customized business and industry services
and Quick Start services.
5C1. Increase inquiries to technical education, adult
literacy, and economic development programs each year by expanding
public awareness of the benefits of CGTC programs and services.
- Continue to improve and utilize college-wide and targeted
communications and media vehicles to stimulate inquiries regarding
CVTC programs and services.
- Record, report, respond to, and track all inquiries through
BANNER.
5C2. Increase public awareness of the One-Stop services
provided by CGTC with a resulting increase in the number of people
served each year.
- Develop promotional materials to make the public and student
body aware of CGTCs One-Stop services and maintain a One-Stop
services component of the CGTC web site.
- Place all student services and social services together in
one area on each campus including the business office and admissions,
financial aid, job placement, tutoring services, and all other
student support services and special programs.
5D. Increase enrollment in CGTC continuing
education programs and courses to 10,000 enrollments per year by
FY2007.
- Expand continuing education opportunities in all
eight seven counties
in the CGTC service area.
- Identify high-demand continuing education topics and time slots
for classes such as Saturday mornings.
- Include promotion and advertisement of continuing education
in the CGTC communications/public relations and recruitment plans.
5E. Expand the role of CGTC as the center
for the community.
- Utilize faculty and staff with specific skills to offer informal
workshops for business and industry throughout the CGTC service
area.
- Optimize internal and external availability of college resources
to benefit the communities in the service area.
- Involve CGTC in the communities in each county in the service
area and serve as a regional hub for all communities within the
service area.
5E1. Expand the involvement of CGTC in the communities
it serves by increasing development of partnerships with other
local entities and by increasing individual administration and
faculty participation in civic organizations and activities.
- Ensure that all members of the leadership team become actively
involved in civic organizations and encourage them to assume
leadership roles.
- Encourage faculty participation in civic organizations and
activities in local communities.
*Market penetration is considered to be the
percent of the total population receiving any direct service from
a DTAE technical college, adult literacy service provider, or Quick
Start program.
