Goal 5: Educational Awareness for Community Development

Contribute to the economic prosperity, quality of life, and “education culture” of central Georgia’s communities by increasing availability of continuing education, strengthening community involvement, and raising public awareness of the benefits of CGTC technical and adult education services.

Desired Long-term Outcome

Increase the market penetration of CGTC programs and services throughout the service area by 2% per year.*

Objectives

5A. Increase the number of communities approved for CLCP participation each year to ensure that each county in the CGTC service area is a CLCP participant by FY2007.

  1. Explore the possibility of two or more smaller counties joining together to form one CLCP participating community.

  2. Communicate the value of a CLCP designation and its impact on improving the literacy rate and quality of the entire community.

5A1. Increase participation in the CLCP each year by promoting the program as a means to create a broad-based education culture and to encourage, support, and facilitate life-long learning for everyone within the community.

    1. Broaden the CLCP program to include basic computer literacy and Internet skills training to serve population segments such as older people who are highly literate but unfamiliar with technology

    2. Expand the CLCP emphasis to include an educational attainment ladder that begins with basic literacy, progresses to high school or GED completion, moves on to postsecondary education, and continues with life-long learning and retraining.

5B. Establish and implement a CGTC communications and public awareness strategy and continue the strategy, with refinements, each year through FY2007.

  1. Participate in the ongoing development of DTAE marketing plans and develop comprehensive CGTC marketing plans that capitalize and build on the statewide plan.

  2. Develop and promote a comprehensive CGTC market position (“ahead of the curve”, “higher levels of learning”, “high tech training and education”, and “advanced programs”) and emphasize the market position in presentations, advertisements, marketing pieces, and other documents.

  3. Continue collaborations with secondary education in CGTC marketing efforts.

5C. Develop and implement a CGTC strategy for recruiting students and attracting economic development program customers and continue the strategy, with refinements, each year through FY2007.

  1. Participate in statewide recruitment efforts, and develop and implement local recruitment plans or CGTC that capitalize on the statewide plan, as appropriate.

  2. Capitalize on summer programs for middle school and high school students, for K-12 teachers, and for four-year college students.

  3. Enhance and broaden integrated marketing strategies to attract increased CGTC economic development program customers

  4. Develop a closer working relationship between CGTC economic development programs and technical program advisory committees to make them aware of CGTC customized business and industry services and Quick Start services.

5C1. Increase inquiries to technical education, adult literacy, and economic development programs each year by expanding public awareness of the benefits of CGTC programs and services.

    1. Continue to improve and utilize college-wide and targeted communications and media vehicles to stimulate inquiries regarding CVTC programs and services.

    2. Record, report, respond to, and track all inquiries through BANNER.

5C2. Increase public awareness of the One-Stop services provided by CGTC with a resulting increase in the number of people served each year.

  1. Develop promotional materials to make the public and student body aware of CGTC’s One-Stop services and maintain a One-Stop services component of the CGTC web site.

  2. Place all student services and social services together in one area on each campus including the business office and admissions, financial aid, job placement, tutoring services, and all other student support services and special programs.

5D. Increase enrollment in CGTC continuing education programs and courses to 10,000 enrollments per year by FY2007.

  1. Expand continuing education opportunities in all eight seven counties in the CGTC service area.

  2. Identify high-demand continuing education topics and time slots for classes such as Saturday mornings.

  3. Include promotion and advertisement of continuing education in the CGTC communications/public relations and recruitment plans.

5E. Expand the role of CGTC as the center for the community.

  1. Utilize faculty and staff with specific skills to offer informal workshops for business and industry throughout the CGTC service area.

  2. Optimize internal and external availability of college resources to benefit the communities in the service area.

  3. Involve CGTC in the communities in each county in the service area and serve as a regional hub for all communities within the service area.

5E1. Expand the involvement of CGTC in the communities it serves by increasing development of partnerships with other local entities and by increasing individual administration and faculty participation in civic organizations and activities.

    1. Ensure that all members of the leadership team become actively involved in civic organizations and encourage them to assume leadership roles.

    2. Encourage faculty participation in civic organizations and activities in local communities.

*Market penetration is considered to be the percent of the total population receiving any direct service from a DTAE technical college, adult literacy service provider, or Quick Start program.
