Expanded Statement of Purpose
The overall purpose of CGTC is to provide educational and workforce
development that supports the economic development and well-being
of the citizens, communities, and companies of Baldwin, Bibb, Crawford,
Jones, Monroe, Putnam, Twiggs, and Wilkinson counties. CGTC is an
important component in the fabric of life-long education for the
service area because it provides the training and retraining needed
for successful employment.
The primary educational purpose is to provide high quality technical
programs and adult literacy services that meet the needs of students,
employers, and economic developers. Additional educational purposes
are to support seamless, accessible education for citizens of the
region and to remove obstacles between high school and further education
and between technical college and other institutions of higher learning.
A wide variety of distance education programs and services also
helps to make instruction available to those who cannot or prefer
not to attend traditional classes.
CGTC's economic development purpose is to provide customized business
and industry training to help existing companies remain and/or expand
in the service area. Quick Start training and other services are
provided to attract new companies to the area, to encourage existing
companies to expand in the area, and to help existing companies
implement new technologies.
Community development purposes are to expand educational opportunities
for people of all ages within the service area through effective
communications and recruitment efforts, to provide a wide range
of technical continuing education courses to contribute to life-long
learning, and to encourage communities to participate in the Certified
Literate Community Program (CLCP). CGTC also seeks to support and
to play a significant role in civic and educational activities for
the improvement and enhancement of the communities within the service
area.
CGTC's purposes are supported by goals that address effective and
efficient management, adequate internal workforce development, and
quality information systems and technology. These goals address
the need to acquire, maintain, and manage adequate and sufficient
human, physical, technological, and monetary resources to provide
the most efficient and effective programs and services possible.
Goals addressing efficient operations, such as those pertaining
to adequate facilities, technology, and sound management practices,
apply to all CGTC programs and services and affect the college's
ability to achieve all other purposes in the plan.
