Progression of Educational Opportunities

CGTC will play a key role in providing an educational “pipeline” that enables students to enter, progress in, and reenter the educational process as needed to achieve their goals. CGTC will collaborate with area high schools, career academies, and home schools to provide continued dual-enrollment options for secondary students. CGTC will offer a bridge to success for adults who need basic education, English education, and GED services and will help these adults progress to postsecondary education. The College will provide opportunities for technical program graduates to progress from technical certificates of credit, to diploma, to associate degree programs, and beyond into affiliated four-year programs. The College will facilitate the entry of experienced workers and four-year-college graduates into technical programs and lifelong learning.

Goal 1. Deliver a seamless progression of lifelong educational opportunities for the CGTC service area.

Expected Results

High School Enrollment – By FY 2014, CGTC will enroll 550 high school students.*

GED to Technical College Transition Rate – By FY 2014, forty percent (40%) of CGTC GED graduates will transition into CGTC technical programs.*

Affiliation Programs – By FY 2014, one-hundred percent (100%) of CGTC program technology clusters will offer at least one option for further study through a program affiliation with a related four-year program.**

G1O1. High School Stay-in-School Efforts

Continue Stay-in-School projects with area high schools to increase the number of at-risk youth who complete high school and who enter technical college programs.

G1O2. GED Bridge to Success

Expand efforts to assist adult basic education (ABE) students to progress into GED preparation and completion and encourage GED graduates to enter and complete technical programs.

G1O3. Dual Enrollment

Establish and/or expand dual enrollment programs for high school, home school, and GED students throughout the service delivery area.

G1O4. Business, Community, Education Partnerships

Pursue the development of business, community, and education partnerships and joint ventures such as the Work-Ready Georgia Initiative, career academies, and other projects to expand the progression of educational opportunities available in the service area.

G1O5. 2+2 Program Affiliations

Expand program affiliations with four-year college programs to increase opportunities for those graduates who wish to continue their education or return to education after gaining work experience.

G1O6. Advanced Educational Opportunities

Expand opportunities for those who have graduated from a technical college or four-year program and those who have extensive work experience to enter CGTC advanced, post-graduate, and/or post-primary technical certificate of credit programs.

G1O7. Lifelong Learning

Increase opportunities for all adults to continue in credit and non-credit programs as needed for professional development and personal enrichment.
