Rick Perkins and Adjunct Instructor of the Year Awarded

The winners of the 2005 Rick Perkins Award of Excellence and the Adjunct Instructor of the Year were announced on July 6, 2005, by Craig Wentworth, Vice President of Instruction.

Mike Engel is this year's winner of the CGTC 2005 Rick Perkins Award of Excellence. Mr. Engel, an Aircraft Structural Technology Instructor, has been an instructor at CGTC for seven years and spent the previous 13 years working in various capacities as a Commandant and Branch Chief for Robins Air Force Base. He received his B.S. in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he is currently pursuing a master of aeronautical science degree. Of his award, Mr. Engel stated, "It was truly an honor to be selected from this outstanding group of professionals and I hope I can represent them and this school in a way that brings credit to our profession."



Henry Wilder is the CGTC 2005 Adjunct Instructor of the Year. Mr. Wilder has been a drafting instructor at CGTC for the past 12 years. Prior to working at CGTC, he was a Technical Designer for the BFGoodrich Company for 16 years. Mr. Wilder received a Drafting and Design Technology diploma from Flint River Technical College and a Design Graphics diploma from El Paso Technical College. Mr. Wilder has been very active in SkillsUSA for the past 5 years, preparing students to compete against other post-secondary schools.



The Rick Perkins Award of Excellence in Technical Instruction has been an ongoing local and statewide event since 1991 and is designed to recognize technical college instructors who make significant contributions to technical education through innovation and leadership in their fields. As CGTC's 2005 Instructor of the Year, Engel will compete among other technical college instructors at the local consortium level. Consortia winners receive statewide recognition for their achievement, and then move to state-level competition in September. The State Rick Perkins Award Winner will be announced at the Lighthouse Institute to be held in St. Simons, Georgia, on September 20-23, 2005.
