CGTC Dental Hygiene Students awarded Hinman Scholarships
Three dental hygiene students at Central Georgia Technical College were awarded Thomas P. Hinman Scholarships.
Meagan Harper of Macon, Stevie Lockhart of Byron, and Samantha Cameron of Monticello each received a $750 scholarship at a luncheon at the 99th annual meeting of the Thomas P. Hinman Dental Society in March in Atlanta.
The Hinman Dental Society has promoted education in the dental profession since 1912. The society grants scholarships to dental students, dental hygiene, laboratory technician, and dental assistant students. Recipients are selected by the dean or program chair of each school's dental department and must be junior student members of the American Dental Association as well as in the top 10 percent of their class, based on grade point average. Recipients are known as Hinman Scholars.
"The Hinman Scholarship is a very noteworthy award,” said dental hygiene instructor Pam Mazaris. “Because Hinman is one of the nation's leading dental meetings, they also had a chance to interact with some of the leading practitioners in the field."
The Hinman Dental Society presents annually scholarships and gifts totaling more than $800,000 to dental, dental hygiene, laboratory technician and dental assisting students at colleges and universities throughout the Southeast, as well as dental education groups and clinics.
