CGTC Challenge 5K Road Race to Raise Scholarship Funds

Runners and walkers of all ages will support student scholarships at Central Georgia Technical College as donors and participants in the first annual CGTC Challenge 5K Road Race on Saturday, April 9.

Local businesses are also invited to contribute to sponsorships in support of student scholarships. Central Georgia Technical College is currently wrapping up Winter Quarter with an enrollment of 7,000. With recent legislative changes to the HOPE grant and scholarships, some CGTC students will be in fresh need for aid.

Katie Howard, a Radiologic Technology student, is a recent recipient of a CGTC Foundation scholarship. “Money was my main concern about going to college. Before coming to CGTC I had never encountered a school that was so willing to help their students financially. Without the help and support financially from CGTC, I would have never made it as far as I have with reaching my career goals.”

The 5K race is scheduled to begin on April 9 at 11 a.m. CGTC will host an awards ceremony immediately following the race.

Racers and walkers will meet at the Milledgeville Campus of CGTC, located at 54 Highway 22 West.

All pre-registrants in the CGTC Challenge 5K race will receive a race t–shirts and a goodie bag. Same day registrants will receive items as supplies last. The registration fee is $15 and $20 after April 1.

Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age group and to the overall male and female finishers.

Local businesses are invited to donate sponsorships for the event. The five levels of sponsorship are Event Sponsor at $2,000, T-Shirt Sponsor at $1,000, Gold Sponsor at $750, Silver Sponsor at $500, and Bronze Sponsor at $250. Depending on its level of sponsorship, a business’s logo will be included in the race program and on race T-shirts.
