CGTC Hosts High School SkillsUSA Competition
Central Georgia Technical College hosted the 2011 High School SkillsUSA Region 2 Championship. The competition was held on Friday, February 4, 2011 at the Macon Campus.
Over 300 students from 23 Georgia counties participated in more than 30 competitive events. Top level finishers will qualify for the 2011 State Leadership and Skills Conference, scheduled for April in Atlanta.
"Having SkillsUSA high school contestants on our campus gives us an opportunity to showcase not only our campus but the over 190 program areas we offer at CGTC," said Tony Turner, CGTC’s Career Services director who is assisting with the event. "These students are excellent examples of the seamless educational relationship that is unique between high school and post-secondary students. Through actual demonstration, SkillUSA competitors show they are ready for the next level of learning."
SkillsUSA Georgia is the career and technical student organization for students enrolled in architecture, construction, communication and transportation (ACCT), cosmetology, and public safety pathways in Georgia's secondary schools. SkillsUSA Georgia provides instruction in both leadership and skills training, incorporating what is learned in the classroom into participation in over 100 competitions.
