CGTC Selects 2010 EAGLE Ambassador
MACON, Ga. – Rebekah Gibson has been selected as Central Georgia Technical College's 2010 Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) Ambassador. The award was presented during CGTC's EAGLE Leadership Competition and Awards Ceremony in November.
Gibson was chosen from a group of ten individuals who were nominated by adult education programs in CGTC's service delivery area. Four students, including Gibson, participated in a second tier of interviews conducted by a panel of judges from the central Georgia community.
Enrolled in GED classes in Bibb County as part of CGTC's adult education program, Gibson was nominated by AEP Instructor, Felicia Phelps.
For the next year, Gibson will serve as a local ambassador for literacy education in CGTC's seven-county service delivery area of Baldwin, Bibb, Crawford, Jones, Monroe, Putnam and Twiggs counties. She will receive an all-expense paid trip to the state EAGLE Leadership Institute, scheduled for February 2010 in Atlanta. The institute provides workshops in building strong leadership and character skills among each student participant.
The Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education Program (EAGLE) recognizes and honors learners who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in statewide adult literacy classes. The EAGLE Program is designed to create a greater awareness of the educational opportunities that are available in local communities across the state and to foster involvement in lifelong learning pursuits.
