CGTC to Host Competitions for Postsecondary SkillsUSA State Championships

Macon - Central Georgia Technical College will be hosting two events for the 2009 Postsecondary SkillsUSA Georgia State Championships. The SkillsUSA Championships are the showcase for the best career and technical students in the nation.

Both competitions, Website Design and Internetworking, will be held on Friday, April 17 at 8:00 a.m. in Building B at the Macon Campus.

The Championships are part of the Postsecondary SkillsUSA Leadership Conference, April 17-18 in Augusta, and hosted by Augusta Technical College. The philosophy of the Championships is to reward students for excellence, to directly involve industry in evaluation student performance and to keep training relevant to employers' needs.

Formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America), SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. Its purpose is to help each student excel. Skills USA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.

Last year, CGTC's SkillsUSA teams placed Gold Medal in Chapter Display (13th consecutive year), Internetworking (9th consecutive year), Silver Medal in Preschool Teaching Assistant (in the first year competing) and Architectural Drafting; and Bronze Medal in Auto Collision Repair.

CGTC also won an unprecedented 13th consecutive gold medal for Chapter Display at the SkillsUSA Nationals in Kansas City, MO.
