CGTC’s Surgical Technology Program Receives Perfect Reaccreditation On-Site Review

Macon - As part of the reaccreditation process for the Surgical Technology program at Central Georgia Technical College, the Accreditation Review Committee for Surgical Technology (ARC-ST) of the Commission on Accreditation for Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) conducted an on-site review on March 12 at the Macon Campus.

The review team gave CGTC's program a perfect four commendations with no weaknesses, recommendations or suggestions cited. The findings will be forwarded to the CAAHEP Board, where a recommendation of continuing accreditation will be formally presented at its next meeting.

The on-site visit by the review team is a key step in the process of reaccreditation for CGTC’s Surgical Technology program. Program accreditation helps assure potential students that a program meets certain minimum standards regarding administration, resources, faculty and facilities.

CGTC’s Surgical Technology program chair, Becky Darley, and instructor Donna Dorn participated in the site visit, which included a review of the program’s curriculum and interviews with advisory board members, faculty and students.

"Reaccreditation means our program continues to be nationally recognized, and our students can be confident that they will benefit from a curriculum based on national standards," Darley said. "It also makes our students eligible to take the nationally recognized certification exam in surgical technology given by the National Board of Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assistants. The skills learned through our program will give CGTC’s students a real advantage as they prepare for the exam."

CGTC’s president, Dr. Ronald D. Natale, II is also proud of this important reaccreditation. “It’s another testament to the enormous time and effort our instructors devote to CGTC, and especially to our students,” Natale said. Reaccreditation means we continue to do the right things to prepare our students well. They can be confident that when they graduate they are not only academically ready, but also workplace-ready."
