Macon - Central Georgia Technical College will be the host site for the 2009 High School SkillsUSA Region 2 Championship. The competition will be held on Friday, February 27, 2009 at the Macon Campus.
Students from 23 Georgia counties will participate in more than 30 competitive events. First and second place winners at region competition qualify for the 2009 State Leadership and Skills Conference, scheduled for April 16-18, 2009 in Atlanta.
"Having SkillsUSA high school contestants on our campus gives us an opportunity to showcase not only our campus but the high appeal of the numerous skilled program areas we offer," said Tony Turner, CGTC’s Career Services director who is assisting with the event. "These students are excellent examples of the seamless educational relationship that is unique between high school and post-secondary (or technical college) students. Through actual demonstration SkillUSA competitors show they are ready for the next level of learning."
SkillsUSA Georgia is the Career and Technical Student Organization for students enrolled in Architecture, Construction, Communication and Transportation (ACCT), Cosmetology, and Public Safety Pathways in Georgia's secondary schools. SkillsUSA Georgia provides training in both leadership and skills training, incorporating what is learned in the classroom into participation in over 100 competitions.
