CGTC to Host Georgia Career Student Association Regional Competition

Central Georgia Technical College will be the host site for the 2009 Region 2 competition of the Georgia Career Student Association. The regional meeting will be held on Friday, February 6, 2009 at the college’s Macon Campus.

The mission of GCSA is to focus on helping students reach their full potential. GCSA members learn employment skills, leadership skills and life skills necessary for a successful future.

Participants will compete in more than 40 different events ranging from agricultural science to PowerPoint presentations to job interviews.

"CGTC is proud to host the Region 2 GCSA competition," said Tony Turner, the college's career services director who is working with GCSA. "This also provides an opportunity for students to become exposed to the technical college environment and learn about our impact on today's workforce. We hope they will look at the technical college as a ‘first-choice’ institution as they go on with their educational pursuits after high school."

Established in 1970, GCSA (formerly known as VOCA) is administered on state, regional and local levels. A state supervisor from the Georgia Department of Education and a state coordinator work closely with a board of directors composed of the state chairperson and twelve regional coordinators, to foster education and motivational experiences for GCSA members. In addition to the board of directors, a GCSA leadership team works directly with the students who serve as state officers.

GCSA is a cost-effective way to integrate academic and career technical programs - one that is not only fun and rewarding for student members, but one that gives back to the community in many ways.
