Central Georgia Technical College has announced Becky Darley as its 2008 Rick Perkins Award winner. The announcement was made at the college's professional development meeting on June 17.
Darley is currently the Program Chair and Instructor for CGTC's Surgical Technology program. She has been with CGTC since July 1995. Darley received her diploma from the Medical Center of Central Georgia School of Nursing.
Central Georgia Technical College President Dr. Ronald D. Natale, II congratulated Darley on winning the award. "The entire CGTC family is proud of Becky’s accomplishments," Natale said. "This represents not only the highest recommendation from her peers, but also a stringent process that included interviews with people from business and industry. It is truly a high honor to win the Rick Perkins Award."
In addition to a special plaque recognizing her efforts, Darley receives an award of $500 from the Central Georgia Technical College Foundation and a $500 CD from MidSouth Federal Credit Union.
As CGTC's Rick Perkins Award winner, Darley serves as an ambassador for technical education in CGTC’s seven-county service area, which includes Baldwin, Bibb, Crawford, Jones, Monroe, Putnam and Twiggs Counties.
Darley will now participate at the consortia level. Six consortia winners will be selected and move to state-level competition. The statewide Rick Perkins Award Winner will be announced at the Annual Technical College System Lighthouse Banquet in September.
The Rick Perkins Award has been an ongoing statewide event since 1991 and is designed to recognize and honor technical college instructors who make significant contributions to technical education through innovation and leadership in their fields.
Formerly known as the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence, the Rick Perkins Award was renamed in memory and honor of Thomas “Rick” Perkins, an instructor at West Central Technical College, who received the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence prior to his untimely death.
