Learning Support Services

Tutoring services are available at no cost for students who wish to improve their grades, or who need intense individual assistance with basic study skills.

To be eligible, students may request a tutor through their teacher or be referred by their instructor and have demonstrated a willingness to prepare, have regular attendance, and display a genuine desire to learn.

GED Online strategies may be an option for students that qualify. Candidates must attend a scheduled orientation to be assessed prior to requesting this option.

Online support, virtual tutors and lab workshops supplement the classroom experience for students that have internet access at home.

PREP360

PREP 360° College Transition Program
" Power to Realize Exceptional Performance"

The Adult Education College Transition Program, PREP360, is an exciting new initiative to encourage and support adult learners as they transition into post-secondary education. The Adult Education Program not only wants students to obtain their GED diploma, but we want them to have the necessary tools to successfully transition into college. The College Transition Program, PREP 360, serves students throughout a 7 county area within SDA 30. The program offers workshops, one-one counseling, advisement on financial aid and admissions process, and a PREP 360 Fast Track class targeted to students at the highest achievement levels. Through the services of PREP360 and a collaborative team of Student and Academic Affairs advisors, the Adult Education Program strives to create a streamlined process for adult learners to gain the benefits of higher education, career choice and program offerings provided by the Technical College System of Georgia at CGTC.

Program Description

Students served by PREP 360 may be identified in the following categories: GED completers, Admission Office referees based on Asset/Compass test placement, and/or dual enrollees whose TABE placement scores show an academic readiness to enter credit programs while completing their GED test preparation.

Students are given the opportunity to attend monthly workshops to prepare them for post-secondary readiness. Some recent workshops include: "Tips for Academic Success & Career Readiness", "Tools for Exceptional Performance" and "Career Services: What’s that all about". A quarterly campus tour exposes students to the campus environment along with supplemental lessons on navigating the college culture and vocabulary. In addition to facilitating many of the workshop topics, the transition advisor coordinates and arranges for speakers from the college and community. The transition advisor regularly visits classrooms to give presentations, administer career interest surveys, and meet with ABE/ESL learners one-on-one to address questions about enrolling into college.

Asset/Compass Test Referrals

Those students who are referred by the Admissions Office to Adult Education for remediation based on their Asset/Compass test scores receive transition services as well. As they meet the requirements to re-enter and complete CGTC's admissions process, referees work with the transition advisor to finalize all needed paperwork and review their next steps.

WISH (Women Inspiring Strength and Hope)

This program was inspired by women enrolled in the adult education program. Female students must make hard choices between, family, relationships, work and school. WISH was established to provide a forum of support and encouragement where women students could meet with professional women and share their experience, strength and hope; often validating that their decision to enroll in school was the right investment of their time that will reap great and varied benefits. Monthly lunch sessions are designed to create a safe place for women to explore the insights of other women, learn from each other's experiences, and use what is learned to help each of them make better choices; choosing to embrace what they can become when the easier choice would be to settle for what may come their way.

The WISH Way – by Linda Tillman, a guest speaker

Life lessons along the way:
People will hold you down if you let them;
That which you tolerate you will never change;
You will produce the environment around you that you cultivate within you;
If you don't know where you are going, you will never know where you've been;
I have learned character counts, so you need to be the best person that you can be;
You will only be as happy as you make up your mind to the;
I have learned that you can keep going on after you can't;
I have learned that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel and you can either control your attitude or it will control you.

WISH Council

The wish program has been established to serve the needs of women students enrolled in the adult education program. The WISH Council is comprised of class representatives, selected by their instructors, to serve as student advisors and advocates.

MIM (Men Inspiring Men)

This program is a male counterpart of the women's WISH program. The program is being developed to provide mentoring to help AEP students set and meet academic and employment goals. Mentors talk with men about health and family problems, and networking to support other men in finding jobs and housing. Monthly lunch sessions are designed to create a safe place for men to explore the insights of other men, learn from each other's experiences, and use what is learned to help each of them make better choices; choosing to embrace what they can become when the easier choice would be to settle for what may come their way.

Career Connection

The adult education program has partnered with community programs throughout Bibb and Baldwin counties to provide students with an Internet connection that is accessible and convenient. These sites are staffed by volunteers trained to work with students to develop a career strategy that includes education. Career Connection Counselors work with students to develop a short-term and long-term plan. Students may become eligible for referrals to job opportunities coordinated with the Department of Labor, Georgia Hire Program.

Over 50% of the central Georgia work force will retire within the next 5 – 10 years; this includes jobs in the fields of: aviation technology, energy technology, healthcare, and distribution management. These potential employers are looking for people with highly developed skills that can be attained through programs at Central Georgia Technical College. Students enrolling in the adult education program will be taking the first step to finding viable employment that can be sustained and provide job security, benefits, and growth opportunities.

These career connection centers are located at the following sites:
