ENG 100 ENGLISH (5-0-5)
Prerequisite: ENG 096, RDG 096 or entrance English and Reading scores in accordance with approved DTAE entrance score levels
Emphasizes the development and improvement of communication skills. Topics include: basic grammar; language usage; vocabulary; idea development; spelling; outlining; sentence elements; sentence and paragraph development; revision; listening and reading skills; and locating, using and organizing information.

ENG 101 ENGLISH (5-0-5)
Prerequisites: ENG 097, RDG 097 or DTAE English entrance score levels
Emphasizes the development and improvement of communication skills. Topics include: analysis of writing techniques used in selected readings; writing practice; editing and proofreading; research skills; and oral presentation skills.

ENG 102 TECHNICAL WRITING (5-0-5)
Prerequisites: ENG 101, ENG 098, RDG 098 or entrance English and Reading scores in accordance with approved DTAE entrance score levels
Emphasizes practical knowledge of technical communication techniques, procedures and reporting formats used in industry and business. Topics include: composition/grammar review; technical communications; construction of informal reports; business letters; oral reports; graphics use; information collection; and production of technical reports.

ENG 111 BUSINESS ENGLISH (5-0-5)
Prerequisite: Program admission
Emphasizes a functional and comprehensive review of English usage. Topics include: English grammar and sentence structure.

ENG 112 BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS (5-0-5)
Prerequisites: ENG 111, Keyboarding Proficiency
Provides knowledge and application of written and oral communications found in business situations. Topics include: writing and speaking fundamentals.

ENG 191 COMPOSITION AND RHETORIC (5-0-5)
Prerequisite: Program admission level language competency or ENG 098 and RDG 098
Explores the analysis of literature and articles about issues in the humanities and society. Students practice various modes of writing ranging from exposition to argumentation and persuasion. The course includes a review of standard grammatical and stylistic usage in proofreading and editing. An introduction to library resources lays the foundation for research. Topics include: writing analysis and practice, revision and research.

ENG 193 LITERATURE AND COMPOSITION(5-0-5)
Prerequisite: ENG 191 with a grade of “C” or higher.
Emphasizes the ability to read literature analytically and meaningfully and to communicate clearly. Students analyze the form and content of literature and practice various modes of writing. Topics include: reading and analysis of fiction, poetry and drama; research; and writing about literature.

ENG 195 TECHNICAL COMMUNICATIONS (5-0-5)
Prerequisite: ENG 191 with a grade of “C” or higher
Emphasizes practical knowledge of technical communications techniques, procedures, and reporting formats used in industry and business. Topics include: reference use and research; device and process description; formal technical writing; business correspondence; and oral technical report presentation.
