ENG 1010 FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGLISH I (5-0-5)
Prerequisite: ENG 097, RDG 097 or entrance English and Reading scores in accordance with approved TCSG entrance score levels
Emphasizes the development and improvement of written and oral communication abilities. Topics include: analysis of writing; applied grammar and writing skills; editing and proofreading skills; research skills; and oral communication skills. Homework assignments reinforce classroom learning.

ENG 1012 FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGLISH II (5-0-5)
Prerequisites: ENG 1010
Provides knowledge and application of written and oral communications found in the workplace. Topics include: writing fundamentals and speaking fundamentals.

ENG 1101 COMPOSITION AND RHETORIC (5-0-5)
Prerequisite: Program admission level language competency or ENG 098 and RDG 098
Explores the analysis of literature and articles about issues in the humanities and society. Students practice various modes of writing ranging from exposition to argumentation and persuasion. The course includes a review of standard grammatical and stylistic usage in proofreading and editing. An introduction to library resources lays the foundation for research. Topics include: writing analysis and practice, revision and research.

ENG 1102 LITERATURE AND COMPOSITION (5-0-5)
Prerequisite: ENG 1101 with a grade of “C” or higher.
Emphasizes the ability to read literature analytically and meaningfully and to communicate clearly. Students analyze the form and content of literature and practice various modes of writing. Topics include: reading and analysis of fiction, poetry and drama; research; and writing about literature.

ENG 1105 TECHNICAL COMMUNICATIONS (5-0-5)
Prerequisite: ENG 1101 with a grade of “C” or higher
Emphasizes practical knowledge of technical communications techniques, procedures, and reporting formats used in industry and business. Topics include: reference use and research; device and process description; formal technical writing; business correspondence; and technical report presentation.
