AHS 101 ANATOMY
AND PHYSIOLOGY (5-0-5)
Prerequisite: Program admission
Focuses on basic normal structure and function of the human body.
Topics include: medical terms describing the human body and structure
and function of the human body.
AHS 102 DRUG
CALCULATION AND ADMINISTRATION (2-2-3)
Prerequisite: MAT 101
Utilizes basic mathematical concepts and includes basic drug administration.
Emphasizes critical thinking skills. Topics include: systems of
measurement, calculating drug problems, resource materials usage,
basic pharmacology, administering medications in a simulated clinical
environment, principles of IV therapy techniques, and client education.

AND DIET THERAPY (2-0-2)
Prerequisite: Provisional admission
A study of the nutritional needs of the individual. Topics include:
nutrients, standard and modified diets, nutrition throughout the
lifespan, and client education.

AHS 104 INTRODUCTION
TO HEALTH CARE (2-3-3)
Prerequisite: Provisional admission
Introduces a grouping of fundamental principles, practices, and
issues common to many specializations in the health care profession.
Topics include: basic life support/CPR, basic emergency care/first
aid, vital signs, infection control, and blood/air-borne pathogens.
AHS 105 BASIC
INORGANIC CHEMISTRY (3-2-4)
Prerequisite/Co-requisite: MAT 101
Introduces chemical concept principles, laws, and techniques applicable
to the medical laboratory. Topics include: laboratory safety; fundamental
principles of chemistry; weights and measures; solutions; and basic
laws of chemistry.
AHS 109 MEDICAL
TERMINOLOGY FOR ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES (3-0-3)
Prerequisite: Provisional admission
Introduces the elements of medical terminology. Emphasis is placed
on building familiarity with medical words through knowledge of
roots, prefixes, and suffixes. Topics include: word origins (roots,
prefixes, and suffixes), word building, abbreviations and symbols,
terminology related to the human anatomy, reading medical orders
and reports, and terminology specific to the students field
of study.
