PHARMACY TECHNOLOGY (PH02)

The Pharmacy Technology program is a sequence of courses that prepares students to function as pharmacy technicians in positions requiring the mixing of prescribed medicines and the compounding of preparations according to prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist. Program graduates are expected to be competent in the general areas of communications, math, computer literacy, and interpersonal relations; additionally, graduates are expected to perform basic occupational functions including pouring, weighing, or measuring dosages; grinding, heating, filtering, dissolving, and mixing liquid or soluble drugs and chemicals; procuring, scoring and issuing pharmaceutical materials and supplies, and maintaining files and records. Graduates of the program receive a Pharmacy Technology diploma which qualifies them for employment as pharmacy technicians.

NOTE: A student who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor may be admitted to the Pharmacy Technology program, but such a conviction may prohibit one from taking the National Certification Examination. Permission to sit for the examination rests solely with the National Certification Board for Pharmacy Technicians.
